On The Horizon: New Releases 1/23-1/26

Welcome back my fellow beer geeks! Thank you for your continued support in providing a forum for me to share all the latest info on the craft beer scene at my store. By now I'm sure that you're sick of hearing me talk (or......reading me talk?) and want me to get to the point.

Well, the point here is that we have TONS of new and exciting beer releases set for this week and you should stop by ASAP:

Marz Cryoflayer
Would this list even be worth reading if it didn't include the latest concoction brewed up by Marz? This week, we'll be receiving "Cryoflayer," a triple dry-hopped New England-Style double IPA. Marz has brewed this beer to commemorate the 8th anniversary of their annual Dungeons and Dragons event: "Level Eater," which they do in collaboration with 3 Floyds. This beer, just like last week's Level Eater Barleyquad, weighs in at 8.88% ABV. Personally, I can't wait to guzzle down a four-pack of this hazy, juicy and aromatic beer. Look for cryoflayer on our shelves later this week!

Pollyanna Maple Fun Size:
Admit it, you've gotten buzzed on Fun Size, Toasted Coconut Fun size. and even Marshmallow Fun Size. If you haven't, you really should, but that's besides the point. Anyways, this week at Cardinal Liquor Depot Joliet, we'll be receiving Pollyanna's latest variant on its wildly-popular milk stout. You may be tempted to pour liberal amounts of this thick, maple syrupy, ooey-gooey brew onto your breakfast. Whatever you do with it, make sure that you wash your hands afterwards, seriously.

Hailstorm Vlad The Second: Order of The Dragon
Known for their gold medal award-winning Prairie Madness IPA, Hailstorm Brewing of nearby Tinley Park has been working on some pretty damn tasty stouts as well. Last week, the brewery released its most recent barrel-aged stout, "Vlad The Second: Order of the Dragon." We are excited to announce that we'll be one of a very select few stores receiving an allotment of this excellent stout later this week!

To 0l BA Goliat Coffee Stout (Bourbon BA) and (Sherry BA)
About 10 years ago, Tobias Emil Jensen and Tore Gynther, founders of To Ol ("two beers") brewery in Denmark, began experimenting with Mikkel Borg Bjergsø (Mikkeller), their brewing instructor, on how to make quality beers. A few years later, the two men have established a brewery that is world-renowned for its many beers, including several barrel-aged brews. Later this week, we'll be receiving not one, but two of these beers: Goliat Imperial Stout aged in bourbon barrels and the same Imperial Stout aged in sherry casks. This beer measures in at slightly over 10% ABV, so eat a sandwich (or two) before savoring this silky smooth beverage.

Mikkeller Black Hole and Black Bear
Disclaimer: Both of these stouts will kick your ass if you don't pace yourself. Black Hole is an imperial stout brewed with coffee, honey and vanilla. ABV: 13.1%
Also arriving this week is Black Bear, another imperial stout by Mikkeller. This stout is slightly smaller than its counterpart, measuring in at 10.1% ABV with notes of coffee, chocolate and licorice.
Both of these sound mighty tasty and won't last long on our shelves!

Anderson Valley Huge Arker:
Not only does the label on this beer feature a bear with freaking horns(!), the beer itself, an imperial stout, is aged in Wild Turkey Bourbon barrels for 6 months. This beer, which features tasting notes of vanilla, coffee and dark fruits, will hit our shelves this Friday!

Werk Force Supergalactic
From our friends down the street at Plainfield's Werk Force Brewing comes "Supergalactic," an American IPA bursting with succulent hop aromas. We will continue to work with Werk Force in the future, so stay tuned for more exciting beers from them.

Amager + Cigar City (Collab) Xiquic and The Hero Twins:
We don't always receive beers brewed by the superstars at Cigar City Brewing, but when we do, they are damn good. Amager Bryghus of Denmark collaborates with American breweries every so often to make excellent beer. This beer, an imperial stout, is brewed somewhat unconventionally. Specifically, the brewers use at Amager and Cigar City use black pepper and cedar wood to give this stout a distinct flavor profile. This beer is a one-shot deal, meaning that it won't be easily available in most places. However, you are reading Cardinal Liquor Depot Joliet's beer blog, so we'll obviously have plenty of it delivered to us later this week for you to enjoy!
