Cracked Open: Imen Reviews Marz Tart N Tangy

Being the largest and coolest liquor store in Joliet is always fun. One of its greatest perks is that we get to taste all sorts of awesome beers. Today, our pal Imen tasted the brand new, fresh-as-hell, Marz Tart N Tangy Wild New England Style IPA. Here's what he thought of it (Disclaimer: Imen has never met a beer that he didn't like.)

Marz Tart N Tangy, In all its glory!

Aroma:
Powerful yet delicate citrusy aroma, with a slightly funky afternote. The lemon and grapefruit flavors are palpable before tasting it.

Pour:
This beer looks like most New England Style IPAs, except it pours slightly lighter, probably because it is a hybrid wild sour/NE style IPA. Also, the lactose finish, which has been present in the last three Marz NEIPAs, gives the beer a more full and "hazy" look. It's not quite as thick as a stout, but also not as light as a run-of-the-mill IPA.

Taste:
Folks, this is a Marz beer, so it obviously possesses everything that an artisan crafted brew should. Last week, I tried Marz's Crazy Straws, and was blown away. The week before that, I tried their Holihaze and thought it was one of the best NEIPAs I ever tasted, and I have tasted a lot of NEIPAs. Tart N Tangy raised the bar! Admittedly, I am not a huge fan of the "wild/sour" beer push, it's just not my thing, sorry not sorry. However, this beer somehow embodies the funk of a wild ale and marries it with the milky/hazy mouthfeel of a NE style IPA and hits a homerun. The beer is not overly hoppy, but isn't watered down, either. The citrusy hoppiness and funkiness of this beer is super easy to guzzle down, as I did in short order. I recommend it to anyone who loves IPAs, as it has the perfect balance of hoppiness and bite to go along with its marriage of milky lactose and wild bacteria. Put simply, Marz Tart N Tangy is one of the best NE style IPAs I've tasted in a while.

Availability: Tart N Tangy is in stock now. At $8.99 per 16.9oz bottle, it is a great value.
